André-Henri Dargelas
André-Henri Dargelas, né à Bordeaux le 11 octobre 1828 et mort à Écouen en juin 1906, est un peintre et dessinateur français du mouvement réaliste.
À partir de 1850, ses œuvres connaissent un succès particulier en Grande-Bretagne après une critique enthousiaste du critique d'art anglais John Ruskin qui apprécie la vision sentimentale de l'enfance typique de Dargelas.
À partir de 1857, il commence à exposer ses œuvres au Salon de Paris .
Le style pictural et les thèmes sont influencés par la leçon de Chardin, à l'époque très populaire en France.
Dans la dernière partie de sa vie, il a déménagé de Paris à Écouen, où il a créé l'École Écouen, à laquelle divers artistes se sont joints Le peintre réaliste français Théophile Emmanuel Duverger était son beau-père.
Dargelas et ses élèves se sont consacrés à une représentation des classes sociales. Les thèmes principaux sont les scènes de la vie quotidienne, avec une préférence pour la représentation des enfants. En particulier, le thème récurrent de l'école indique l'importance que l'artiste attache à l'éducation de masse.

Le pangolin de Temminck (Smutsia temminckii)
Contrairement aux autres pangolins, le pangolin de Temminck (Smutsia temminckii) est bipède, marchant et supportant le poids sur ses pattes arrière, les membres antérieurs étant repliés vers la poitrine, et la queue étant maintenue hors du sol et utilisée comme contrepoids.
Il ne reste plus que cet animal pour imiter la marche bipède en porte-à-faux des dinosaures.
Le pangolin de Temminck reste donc, presque par hasard, un vestige d'un mode de locomotion qui régnait autrefois sur le monde terrestre.

Parc national de la forêt pétrifiée
Le parc national de la forêt pétrifiée est situé dans les comtés de Navajo et d'Apache, dans le nord-est de l'Arizona. Nommé en raison de ses importants gisements de bois pétrifié, le parc couvre environ 900 kilomètres carrés et comprend une steppe arbustive semi-désertique ainsi que des badlands colorés et fortement érodés. Le siège du parc se trouve à environ 42 km à l'est de Holbrook, le long de l'Interstate 40 (I-40), qui est parallèle au Southern Transcon de la BNSF Railway, à la Puerco River et à l'historique U.S. Route 66, qui traversent tous le parc d'une manière approximativement est-ouest. Le site, dont la partie nord s'étend dans le Painted Desert, a été déclaré monument national en 1906 et parc national en 1962. Le parc a reçu 644 922 visiteurs récréatifs en 2018.
Avec une altitude moyenne de 1600 m, le climat du parc est sec et venteux, avec des températures qui varient entre des maxima estivaux d'environ 38°C et des minima hivernaux bien en dessous du point de congélation. Le parc compte plus de 400 espèces de plantes, dominées par des graminées telles que le bunchgrass, le blue grama et le sacaton. La faune comprend de grands animaux comme le pronghorn, le coyote et le lynx roux, de nombreux animaux plus petits comme la souris sylvestre, les serpents, les lézards et sept sortes d'amphibiens, ainsi que plus de 200 espèces d'oiseaux, dont certains sont des résidents permanents et d'autres des migrateurs. Environ un tiers du parc est considéré comme sauvage (203 km2).
La forêt pétrifiée est connue pour ses fossiles, en particulier les arbres tombés au sol qui vivaient à l'époque du Trias tardif, il y a environ 225 millions d'années. Les sédiments contenant les troncs fossiles font partie de la formation Chinle, très répandue et colorée, qui a donné son nom au Painted Desert (désert peint). Il y a environ 60 millions d'années, le plateau du Colorado, dont le parc fait partie, a été poussé vers le haut par les forces tectoniques et exposé à une érosion accrue. Toutes les couches rocheuses du parc situées au-dessus du Chinle, à l'exception des couches géologiquement récentes que l'on trouve dans certaines parties du parc, ont été enlevées par le vent et l'eau. Outre les troncs pétrifiés, les fossiles découverts dans le parc comprennent des fougères du Trias tardif, des cycades, des ginkgos et de nombreuses autres plantes, ainsi qu'une faune comprenant des reptiles géants appelés phytosaures, de grands amphibiens et les premiers dinosaures. Les paléontologues déterrent et étudient les fossiles du parc depuis le début du 20e siècle.
Les premiers habitants du parc sont arrivés il y a 13000 ans. Ces hommes de l'ère Clovis sont les ancêtres des Amérindiens. Il y a environ 2500 ans, les agriculteurs du Pueblo ancestral cultivaient le maïs et vivaient dans des maisons souterraines dans ce qui allait devenir le parc. Il y a 1 000 ans, les agriculteurs du Pueblo ancestral vivaient dans des habitations en maçonnerie en surface appelées pueblos et se réunissaient dans de grands bâtiments communautaires appelés grands kivas. Vers 1450 après J.-C., les fermiers Pueblo ancestraux de la forêt pétrifiée ont migré pour rejoindre les communautés en plein essor des mesas Hopi au nord-ouest et du Pueblo de Zuni à l'est - ces lieux abritent encore aujourd'hui des milliers de membres des communautés descendantes. Plus de 1000 sites archéologiques, dont des pétroglyphes, ont été découverts dans le parc. Ces lieux ancestraux restent importants pour les communautés de descendants. Au XVIe siècle, des explorateurs espagnols ont visité la région et, au milieu du XIXe siècle, une équipe américaine a arpenté une route est-ouest traversant la zone où se trouve aujourd'hui le parc et a noté la présence de bois pétrifié. Plus tard, des routes et une voie ferrée ont suivi des itinéraires similaires et ont donné lieu au tourisme et, avant que le parc ne soit protégé, à l'enlèvement de fossiles à grande échelle. Le vol de bois pétrifié reste un problème au 21e siècle.
Le parc national de Petrified Forest est situé à cheval sur la frontière entre le comté d'Apache et le comté de Navajo, dans le nord-est de l'Arizona. Le parc mesure environ 50 km du nord au sud et sa largeur varie d'un maximum d'environ 20 km au nord à un minimum d'environ 1,6 km le long d'un corridor étroit entre le nord et le sud, où le parc s'élargit à nouveau à environ 6 à 8 km.
Le parc national de la forêt pétrifiée est connu pour ses fossiles, en particulier ceux d'arbres tombés au sol qui vivaient à l'époque du Trias tardif de l'ère mésozoïque, il y a environ 225 à 207 millions d'années. À cette époque, la région qui constitue aujourd'hui le parc était proche de l'équateur, sur la bordure sud-ouest du supercontinent Pangée, et son climat était humide et subtropical. Ce qui est devenu plus tard le nord-est de l'Arizona était une plaine basse flanquée de montagnes au sud et au sud-est et d'une mer à l'ouest. Les cours d'eau qui traversent la plaine depuis les hauts plateaux déposent des sédiments inorganiques et de la matière organique, notamment des arbres ainsi que d'autres plantes et animaux qui ont pénétré ou sont tombés dans l'eau. Bien que la plupart des matières organiques se décomposent rapidement ou soient mangées par d'autres organismes, certaines sont enfouies si rapidement qu'elles restent intactes et peuvent se fossiliser. Dans le parc, les sédiments contenant les troncs fossiles qui ont donné leur nom au parc font partie de la formation de Chinle.
Le Chinle coloré, qui apparaît en surface dans de nombreuses régions du sud-ouest des États-Unis et qui a donné son nom au Painted Desert (désert peint), atteint une épaisseur de 240 m dans le parc. Il est constitué d'une variété de roches sédimentaires comprenant des lits de mudstone, siltstone et claystone tendres et à grain fin - dont une grande partie est constituée de bentonite - ainsi que des grès et conglomérats plus durs et du calcaire. Exposé au vent et à l'eau, le Chinle s'érode généralement de manière différenciée pour former des badlands composés de falaises, de ravins, de mesas, de buttes et de collines arrondies. Son argile bentonitique, qui gonfle lorsqu'elle est humide et rétrécit en séchant, provoque des mouvements de surface et des fissures qui découragent la croissance des plantes. L'absence de couverture végétale rend le Chinle particulièrement sensible aux intempéries.
Il y a environ 60 millions d'années, des mouvements tectoniques de la croûte terrestre ont commencé à soulever le plateau du Colorado, dont le Painted Desert fait partie, et certaines parties du plateau ont fini par s'élever à 3 000 m au-dessus du niveau de la mer. Cette déformation de la surface de la Terre a entraîné la destruction progressive et continue du plateau par l'érosion. Une discordance (rupture dans l'enregistrement des roches) d'environ 200 millions d'années se produit à l'intérieur du parc, où l'érosion a éliminé toutes les couches rocheuses situées au-dessus du Chinle, à l'exception de celles qui sont géologiquement récentes. La formation Bidahochi, mise en place il y a seulement 4 à 8 millions d'années, repose directement sur le Chinle, et les roches mises en place au Jurassique, au Crétacé et dans une grande partie du Tertiaire sont absentes.
Pendant la période de dépôt du Bidahochi, un grand bassin lacustre couvrait une grande partie du nord-est de l'Arizona. Les couches plus anciennes (inférieures) de la formation sont constituées de dépôts fluviaux et lacustres (liés aux lacs) de limon, de sable et d'argile. Le Bidahochi plus jeune (supérieur) contient des cendres et des laves provenant de volcans qui sont entrés en éruption à proximité et jusqu'au sud-ouest du Nevada[18]. Bien qu'une grande partie du Bidahochi ait été érodée depuis, une petite partie affleure dans la partie nord du parc, sur Pilot Rock dans la section sauvage du parc et le long du bord du Painted Desert entre les points Pintado et Tawa. [L'érosion du Bidahochi a mis au jour des reliefs volcaniques appelés maars (cratères volcaniques à fond plat et à peu près circulaires d'origine explosive). Une cheminée de maar peut être observée depuis le belvédère de la pointe Pintado.
Au cours de la période quaternaire (il y a 2,6 millions d'années jusqu'à aujourd'hui), des dépôts de sable et d'alluvions soufflés par le vent ont recouvert une grande partie du Chinle et du Bidahochi. L'âge des dunes les plus anciennes varie de 500000 ans en altitude dans la partie nord du parc à environ 10000 ans dans les zones de drainage sablonneuses telles que Lithodendron Wash. Stabilisées par des herbes et d'autres végétaux, les jeunes dunes d'environ 1000 ans se trouvent dans tout le parc.
Au cours du Trias supérieur, les arbres abattus qui s'accumulaient dans les cours d'eau de ce qui est devenu le parc ont été périodiquement ensevelis par des sédiments contenant des cendres volcaniques. Les eaux souterraines ont dissous la silice (dioxyde de silicium) des cendres et l'ont transportée dans les troncs, où elle a formé des cristaux de quartz qui ont progressivement remplacé la matière organique. Des traces d'oxyde de fer et d'autres substances se sont combinées à la silice pour créer des couleurs variées dans le bois pétrifié.
Dans le parc national de la forêt pétrifiée, la plupart des troncs d'arbres ont conservé leur forme extérieure originale pendant la pétrification, mais ont perdu leur structure interne. Cependant, une petite fraction des troncs et la plupart des os d'animaux pétrifiés du parc présentent des cellules et d'autres espaces remplis de minéraux, mais qui conservent une grande partie de leur structure organique d'origine. Avec ces fossiles perminéralisés, il est possible d'étudier la composition cellulaire des organismes originaux à l'aide d'un microscope. D'autres matières organiques - généralement des feuilles, des graines, des pommes de pin, des grains de pollen, des spores, de petites tiges et des restes de poissons, d'insectes et d'animaux - ont été préservées dans le parc sous forme de fossiles de compression, aplatis par le poids des sédiments qui les recouvrent jusqu'à ce qu'il ne reste plus qu'une fine pellicule dans la roche.
Une grande partie du bois pétrifié du parc provient de l'Araucarioxylon arizonicum, un conifère éteint, tandis que certains arbres trouvés dans la partie nord du parc proviennent de Woodworthia arizonica et de Schilderia adamanica. Au moins neuf espèces d'arbres fossiles du parc ont été identifiées ; toutes sont éteintes. Le parc possède bien d'autres types de fossiles que les arbres. Le Chinle, considéré comme l'un des gisements de plantes fossiles du Trias supérieur les plus riches au monde, contient plus de 200 taxons de plantes fossiles. Les groupes de plantes représentés dans le parc comprennent les lycophytes, les fougères, les cycades, les conifères, les ginkgos, ainsi que des formes non classifiées. Le parc a également produit l'un des assemblages les plus diversifiés de vertébrés fossiles du Trias supérieur. Parmi les groupes représentés figurent les premiers dinosaures théropodes, les archosaures de la lignée des crocodiles, les amphibiens temnospondyles, les lissamphibiens, les diapsides non archosauromorphes, ainsi que d'autres dinosauromorphes et archosauromorphes. Les dicynodontes sont extrêmement rares bien qu'ils soient abondamment représentés dans la carrière de Placerias près de St. Johns. Les invertébrés fossiles comprennent des escargots et des palourdes d'eau douce. La plus ancienne écrevisse fossile, Enoploclytia porteri, a également été décrite dans le parc, bien qu'elle ne soit pas considérée comme une écrevisse à proprement parler (elle est plutôt classée dans la catégorie des Erymidae).

If you look further down on that error message where it says HTTP 502 Bad Gateway it tells me the server might have been having issues at that point in time. In all honestly it's kinda unavoidable at the time due to resource constraints, sites currently on a rented dedicated server until I fix my housing situation (current ETA is late october when I can work on putting it back on my own, more stable, hardware again), so it probably was just having issues loading that page at that time.
There's not a lot I can do with troubleshooting clients, but let me know if it keeps having trouble and maybe I can work with you to find some answers?

So I'm relatively new to fediverse, although I have already interacted with federated protocols (such as Matrix, but Matrix is way different from Mastodon/Friendica/Bluesky/Pleroma/etc).
I have been sailing through two Mastodon instances, but Mastodon's character limit is low for my needs. I'm a developer (JS, PHP, Python, etc) that also like to write poetry and chronicles, as well as interacting with AI to create artistic representations of the gothic and the dark supernatural. While it seems that Friendica supports more characters, I'll know it the moment I send this first post. It has 1342 characters in total.
I have a syncretic view over the reality, trying to converge scientific inquiry with the philosophical questioning and the metaphysical spirituality from all religions and belief systems (even when they seem to "contradict" one another; actually, they have more in common than people think, starting from the beginning of the existence from primordial waters from the amniotic liquid to the electromagnetic fields permeating the cosmos, but it's a subject for another future post).
One important thing for me to ask: does the instance allow AI Art (e.g. from artistic representations of daemons such as Astaroth and Lilith to mathematical concepts such as fractals; obviously these AI imagery would be marked as so)?

@Daemon Silverstein This instance? I allow properly marked AI content, I would also suggest content warnings (in Friendica it's done with [abstract]content warning message[/abstract]), but I count that more as a courtesy effort than something I'm going to really demand.
Friendica has no character limit set.
As Friendica isn't the friendliest user interface, if you do find you'd prefer Mastodon or Mastodon-like, there are many that have higher character limits.

Sorry for the downtime
Housing situation has been a pain, still on the temporary server environment and been hitting major resources bottlenecks.
I'm hoping to get a place sooner, but I've hit some roadblocks that very likely will push it drastically further out... in which case I'll need to spend more money on this environment to return things to stable.
Reminder that I'm covering this entirely out of my own pocket and these constraints are because I'm between homes and can't use my own much cheaper hardware. If you appreciate this instance I would very much appreciate a donation.

Friendica vs Mastodon
I tried Friendica previously, but never figured out what I wanted to do with it, and deleted it after a while. But after I'd read the excellent post @Elena Rossini wrote on her blog I realised I really should give it another chance, and decided to put a little more effort into it this time. So I created this account yesterday, and now I'm trying to decide how I want to use it. Some part of that uncertainty is because I haven't figured out all the bells and whistles of the platform, and I don't always quite understand what the help pages are trying to tell me. This is definitely mostly on me, having some preconceived notions and expectations, and getting a little confused here and there. This is not Facebook or Goggle+, it is its own thing.
For the most part though, just trying things out with one eye on those help pages have solved any questions I've had.
After I had signed up, I initially imported all the accounts I am following on Mastodon, but am starting to regret this. The two networks are obviously very different beasts, and I will act accordingly from now on. My current idea is to use Friendica, at least partly, as a sort of news aggregator, following accounts both on the fediverse and via RSS feeds, so a lot of those Mastodon accounts will be unfollowed here for a quieter experience and left on Mastodon. Just because you can follow everything everywhere on ActivityPub, it doesn't always make the best sense. But that, of course, is also the beauty of this, what doesn't make the best sense for me, might do for someone else. Different folks...
Occasionally I may even post something here, things that require more than 500 words, things like this.
That's what I'm planning to do right now, anyway. Who knows what I'll think tomorrow?

Long time no writing here
I started to digging into my latest hobby of #bookbinding (but it's not the only one i assure you)
And made several pamphlet, with also some custom design.
I recently made couple of handmade hardcover journals. One using a custom hero-quest character sheet, the other one is just a lined notebook.
