This is a long article, but the theory hits *hard* with me and connects really well.
The basic gist is that autistics almost always define our identities by what we do and our personal traits, while non-autistics almost always define their identities by their relationships (in particular to social groups)
If you don't have it in you to read all of it, definitely read the section: "How does having an experientially-constructed identity impact relationships?".

Fuck that brings so many memories.
From @danikowal on facebook:
Me, not following the submarine lost in the ocean news:"Look, you just can't add the suffix -gate to every damn thing that goes wrong and blows up in the faces of the rich and powerful!"
*sees the company willingly called itself Oceangate*
"...well that's just asking for trouble..."
*learns that they fired the engineer who said it wasn't safe*
"...okay and NOBODY had a problem with it failing crush tests?"
*realizes that they are specifically going to see the 'unsinkable' Titanic*
"...yeah okay that's just freakin' hubris at this point."

Random PSA/infodump just because I'm reminded that people don't know these things and still think cryptocurrency is investment fraud (notably people calling it a ponzi scheme).
First, to be clear: crypto sucks, but it is not investment fraud. It's an entirely legitimate investment, just a risky one (all investment is gambling).
The biggest problem I have with people calling it a Ponzi Scheme is that it's confusing people on what a Ponzi Scheme is. So here's a short intro to the two big types of investment schemes:
- Ponzi Scheme: These schemes typically look like entirely normal investment opportunities that some person or organization is offering you. The notable aspects that are required for a Ponzi Scheme are that you're being promised returns on your investment (not you buying and selling investments, but just making the investment once and getting routine payouts) and that they are continually looking for new investors (no set amount of money they're trying to raise).
Part of what makes these schemes especially deceptive is that they're often started accidentally. The basic structure of these is that whomever you are investing with is not actually investing in the way they're telling you, they're taking the money you gave them to pay the returns of earlier investors in the scheme.
- Pyramid Scheme: These schemes are always intentional frauds and are painfully obvious to anyone who knows what a pyramid scheme is (they survive because of how many people don't know what pyramid schemes are and the sheer amount of manpower they have to spread the fraud).
The basic structure of a pyramid scheme is that, unless you are one of the original investors, you are not investing directly in the organization. Instead you will always be investing through other people under the promise that you'll make money by convincing other people to invest through you. They spread aggressively because you're incentivized to put pressure on everyone below you in the pyramid to spread it as aggressively as possible.
MLM's (Multi-Level Marketing) are a type of pyramid scheme in which your "investment" is buying materials to sell on their behalf. Notable in comparison to legitimate work, there will be no controls to limit competition in the area (meaning each added person you didn't bring in yourself is cutting into your ability to sell product) and you will be expected to "buy in" through another "investor" rather than with the company itself directly.
Notably, these fail because there's a practical limit to how many people you can add and once you stop adding people the revenue dries up.

My Sibling's cat had a nasty eye infection and they had to take them to an emergency vet visit.
Thankfully after all the tests they established it was just a nasty infection, so he'll be fine with no lasting damage... save to my sibling's wallet.
The vet bill is nearly $600 and my sibling could really use help paying for it.
Currently I only have Cash App set up for myself ( $ShiriBailem ), but when my sibling has a chance to charge their phone I'll edit to add their payment info as well.
Edit: My sibling has a paypal account at tubularseries@gmail.com if you'd like to send them help directly.

Been feeling wiped out and critically low energy lately. But I just want to share that my siblings have brought me so much joy these past few weeks, one providing video documents of neighborhood stray kittens, the other documenting their progress training crows for mischief.
And the memes have been great as well! โค

God it's depressing that people believe this is the true nature of downtowns:
"Without commuting office workers, the office buildings go empty, they become worth a fraction of their cost, and retail cannot survive."
From innovationnation.blog/p/its-coโฆ
Cities predate commutes. The hollowed out core that triples in population, swelled to bursting with bored and unhappy suburbanites during work hours, is a modern abomination made possible by cars and structural racism.
What's killing downtowns is that we spent so long on this awful vision of work and spent half a century strangling inner city infrastructure to subsidize incredibly expensive suburban lifestyles.
Want to make downtowns viable again? Convert dead office space to apartments and schools and colleges and other spaces people can work *and* live in.
Good luck with your rezoning applications though.

We're seeing a large influx of new users, so here's some helpful Mastodon tips:
1. Liking a post does not affect its visibility. Instead, use the like button to let a user know that you find them to be irresistibly attractive and would like to become their internet soulmate.
2. Instead of saying orthodontist on here, we say mastodontist. This is important to know.
3. Tell us about yourself! Write either "pro-cannibalism" or "anti-caniballism" in your bio to avoid simple misunderstandings.

@Cฤtฤ it's absolutely not a platform for discussion imo, and it's more about keeping it short. Everyone is incentivized to get to the point rather than writing longer posts.
It makes it hard to rant and get into heated discussions, but easier to get a dose of bite sized content that's easy and quick to read.
Alternatively, Friendica's format is much more suited to longer posts and ongoing conversations.

@Shiri Bailem Yea, it is. I do not always post rants, but I sometimes like to elaborate my arguments when I get into a discussion, despite taking me quite some time :D
So I guess Twitter will never be the place for me :D

Fans of the #Sopranos will remember the #BustOut as a mob tactic in which a business is taken over, loaded up with debt, and driven into the ground, wrecking the lives of the business's workers, customers and suppliers. When the mafia does this, we call it a bust out; when Wall Street does it, we call it #PrivateEquity.

If you're white, and the phrase "white people have no culture" makes you angry, it should, it absolutely should, if you are a thinking feeling human it should make you absolutely livid that your ancestors stole EVERYTHING from the rest of the world, broke and killed whatever they couldn't steal, and left you only the legacy of that theft instead of anything to feel even an iota of pride in. That others' mistrust and skepticism of you is, by its very nature, inherently logical and reasonable no matter what you say or do.
And it should make you near incoherent with rage that they are still doing it, constantly, every single day. And that whether you know it or not, you're complicit in it.
The only logical recourse is to tear them, yourself, and all the edifice surrounding you down.
Shiri Bailem reshared this.
@Swiff I think an important addition is to note that there is culture for many groups considered white... just not "white culture". (ie. English, German, Swiss, etc culture).
The worst of it though is here in America, where "whiteness" became endemic since the beginning. So the only thing we have to reach for in terms of ethnic culture is distant ancestry.
Though I imagine it's still felt abroad as well because the act of forcing your culture onto everyone makes it no longer feel like *your* culture...

Unknown parent • •@bike I suspect it isn't that much different. Collectivist societies can be awful in their own ways.
They're still better imo, but they have a tendency to focus too hard on traditions and conformity on top of the ideals of communal responsibility.
But in all cases it's a mesh of peer pressure and group identity vs our value identity.
