William Henry Parkinson
William Henry Parkinson (1863 - 1916) était un artiste et photographe de Bradford. Son père, également prénommé William, était maître imprimeur et mourut alors que William jnr. était encore adolescent, laissant sa mère, Elizabeth, s'occuper de lui et de sa sœur, Clary. La famille vivait avec les parents d'Elizabeth à Rooley Lane, Bankfoot, Bradford.
Après avoir quitté l'école, William devient apprenti artiste-photographe. À cette époque, dans les premières années de la photographie, les deux compétences étaient étroitement liées, les photographies étant souvent colorées à la main, retouchées ou embellies.
William a fini par établir son propre studio photographique au 115 Newton Street, West Bowling, Bradford.
Les photographes, qui étaient également des artistes compétents, peignaient souvent des portraits commandés à partir de photographies qui leur étaient fournies, de sorte que William, qui était également un artiste talentueux, était bien placé pour trouver du travail. L'un des portraits qu'il a peints est celui de la célèbre actrice et chanteuse Gertie Millar, née à Bradford, appréciée pour sa beauté et populaire pour ses prestations sur scène dans des comédies musicales. Le portrait à l'huile d'une célébrité comme Gertie se vendait à un bon prix dans sa forme originale, et était également reproduit sous forme d'estampes pour être vendu à ses admirateurs.
En 1884, William a épousé Annie Cowman et le couple s'est installé à Newton Street, Bowling, où il a élevé cinq enfants.
Outre son travail photographique, William a également peint un large éventail de scènes terrestres, côtières et de genre victorien. Il avait l'œil pour repérer les sujets qui s'avéraient populaires dans les maisons de la fin de l'époque victorienne et de l'époque édouardienne dans la ville et il a exposé ses œuvres tant au niveau régional avec la Yorkshire Union of Artists, qu'à Londres, y compris sept œuvres à la Royal Academy.

Downtime
Sorry for the downtime, server crashed and I wasn't able to address it quickly or smoothly in my current mental state.
I took advantage of the downtime, and probably exacerbated it a little, and finally did the migration back to local hardware... so it *should* be more reliable.
What honestly stretched it out a lot is that I also applied the most recent stable Friendica version and that took forever to update the database.
It's with a heavy heart that I'm letting y'all know that I'm disabling open-registrations and *encouraging* all users to find a new home.
I'm not kicking anyone off my server, but unfortunately due to the political situation here in the US the chance for things to go *very bad very quickly* I can not vouch for this server as reliable.
I live in Texas and need to figure out plans to evacuate at this point. I was holding out hope that we'd at least have status quo (as monstrously awful as it is) for longer.
And to make things worse, I'm a trans-woman, they actively want to make my very existence (let alone presence online) illegal and have been building the machinery to make that a very fast process once Trump assumes office.
So I do not recommend this server any longer for those reasons, if you choose to stay I'll continue to run it and support y'all.
