I did a double-take. This looks so much like Robin Williams, whom I miss. As for the kindness thing, that may work for some, others see it as either weakness or their due, and treat you that much the worse, until you finally have to walk away to protect your sanity, your self-respect & your pride.
@lolonurse I'm reminded of the Buddhist saying, "If your practice does not extend to yourself it is incomplete."
I would suggest that practising kindness for self would preclude being abused or victimized. Perhaps another word would be charitable. One can be charitable, without giving away what one needs for survival.
