Why You Must Keep The Monsters Human

*(Reposting because my node crashed and lost all my posts and I want to keep this one pinned)*

I've been mulling over making this post for a little bit, but I think it's really **really** important.

It's critically important that you remember and acknowledge the humanity of monsters. Not for their benefit, but for *everyone else's* benefit.

When someone commits a monstrous act or shares a monstrous belief, we want to think of them as an inherently vile and non-human thing.

But doing so shields and protects other monsters.

When you make a Nazi, or any kind of abuser, into a one-dimensional monster. When you make their whole existence *center* on this monstrous act or belief... you make it hard to see their humanity. And that's the point, you don't *want* to see their humanity.

*** You Don't Want To Believe That Someone You Know And Trust (Maybe Even Love) Is Capable Of Such Atrocity. ***

And that's the problem. Because when you reject their humanity, that humanity becomes their shield. Your friend Bob can't possibly be a Nazi or a child-abuser, he's such a loving father and he helped you move!

Because you see their humanity, you can't possibly imagine them as monsters because the monsters have no humanity in your eyes.

There's a reason that when serial killers get caught their neighbors say they couldn't imagine them doing such things.

So don't ignore their humanity, keep it in your mind... so the next one can't use it as a shield.

#NicheSupportGroup idea: meeting for quiet people who were reprimanded a few hundred too many times for being "rude" as a child, and as a result are terrified of conversations.

@wakame @Nicole this is like the general trauma support where everyone argues that everyone else has it worse than them

I love this, especially the name though it's hard to read with compression: The Shattle

By the time this thing arrives I think I’ll have shit myself waiting for it.
RE: dads.cool/users/InternetEh/sta…

@InternetEh@dads.cool:

gotta go, my ride is here
It's an art installation of a white pod like building with several quadcopter propellers at the top. Inside, there is a toilet. Lifestyle Department Art is the poster. It says "The future has already arrived. Now you do not need to run and look for a public toilet. Our service allows you to call the toilet like a taxi. Tariffs available: Economy, comfort and business."

Got told someone was trying to serve me papers weeks ago... they *finally* got to me (after telling them weeks ago where to find me...)

All that annoying anxiety for... relative died and they're foreclosing on his house.

I disowned all of them years ago... apparently they're going to annoy the shit out of me by dying...

@Raroun @Shiri Bailem The PR has been merged, you can pull the latest develop branch and it should fix those parent-uid = 0 rows.

The Fediverse is easy. Just remember that some instances have blood feuds that date back to the Roman Empire, so be aware of that when checking the instance rules! ❤️

As a hearing aid user myself since ~birth, and a technologist who likes to build things, this sort of situation would be a double nightmare: sapiens.org/culture/planned-ob…

Imagine if your glasses stopped working without getting software updates. It's insanity, with shades of @pluralistic's "Unauthorized Bread".

When a company can effectively "brick" your brain, we have taken DRM too far.
I thought the DRM controlled motocycle safety gear was the worst, but we have a new winner with cochlear implants.
Recall a heart valve if we don't maintain subscription?

I really want to blame my cat for making a mess because she climbed ontop of a messy table and proceeded to knock everything off as she positioned and stretched...

But did she really make the mess or just redistribute it?

Whelp, that was faster than expected. Friendica already has an early BlueSky account connector (for puppeting an account since they haven't yet federated).

I've applied the latest (2023.5) update of Friendica and enabled that addon.

in reply to Shiri Bailem

*and* this now means I get to feel less annoyed by people talking about BlueSky as an alternative to current fediverse platforms...

Still leaning on "probably not worth it to sign up for it", but... maybe I'll get in a mood?

Updated to the new version of Friendica and.... ::knocks on wood:: everything went completely smooth?

Every study ever: Overworked employees are less productive. Employees who work from home are just as productive as employees who work in the office. The evidence is indisputable.

Managers: I see. But I have a hunch that the complete opposite is true.

in reply to Low Quality Facts

Data point: I work in the office and I'm FAR more productive on the days when everyone else is WFH because it's quieter and less distracting!

It brings me so much joy when a dog or cat walks up to me to say hello. Seeing, meeting and petting animals is always a highlight of my days.

Do NOT boost this post

Edit: so far the conclusion is that y'all don't know how to follow instructions (or you're a buncha brats >:3)
