What I think is most important about this story is that the kids were very clear: they did not want contact. They outright said that he'd been violently abusive, that they were afraid of him, and the eldest was 12.
It's wild to me that courts give unsupervised contact to parents whose kids have said they are afraid of them, and I hope every judge in these cases is aware of cases like this, where children are genuinely unsafe with one parent but that parent gains full access through court order.
I was incredibly relieved when the Texas Supreme Court sided with Child Protective Services against the Child-Abusing Sociopath Jeff Younger, first allowing the Family Court to remove his custody, and then allowing the mother of his children to move out of state with them: we need more decisions like that.
