Stephen Lendman: National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting (PBS) was founded in 1970 as an independent, private, non-profit member organization of US public radio stations, NPR promised to be an alternative to commercial broadcasters by "promot(ing) personal growth rather than corporate gain (and) speak with many voices, many dialects."
