SACP conveys condolences to the families of the 20 deceased workers and other victims of the horrific accident in Musina which occurred on Sunday 17th September 2023: A Call For Decisve Action https://www.sacp.org.za/content/sacp-conveys-condolences-families-20-deceased-workers-and-other-victims-horrific-accident

Just a reminder:

Mastodon != ActivityPub != Fediverse

It's been driving me up the wall how often people act like Mastodon is a synonym for both AP and Fedi.

@Vel 💽 @raf I think you just missed the edit to add /s before sending this, it was a joke sarcastic response
in reply to Velveteen

@Vel 💽 @raf it takes a while for the edit to propogate. You sent 10 minutes after the edit, but it could be an hour from now before your instance gets the edit.
in reply to Velveteen

@Velveteen
Yea I was trying to pretend all those and Funkwhale didn't exist! The reply needed to be more over the top

@raf @Vel 💽 Poe's Law, there's no point at which you are over the top enough to convey that you're not serious

Just giving a shout out to Fediseer.com for an interesting project (and the gui project available at https://fediseer.lemmings.world

If you're an instance admin I think it's worth checking out, setting up, and bookmarking for your moderation toolkit.

I don't endorse any sort of automated blocking off of said lists, but I do endorse having a database you can reference when deciding whether to defederate an instance, especially if people have filled in proof links.

Okay I find the interface of this website a little overwhelming, but I want to see if I can use it as a kind of post aggregator for the fediverse, RSS feeds, and possibly more.
in reply to Kai Ocean

@Kai Ocean let me know if you need any help, I love friendica but won't pretend that the interface isn't awful and deeply unintuitive

@toffee ❤️ toffee ❤️ tea&coffee I scheduled this post so you'd get a random reminder that you're appreciated and we're grateful that you're here.

Oops

Made a performance tweak that shouldn't have had an impact and resulted in a non-error being flagged as an error (I was getting 302 which really just means "look at this other address").

Fixed the tweak, otherwise should be a tiny bit better. I've got it recognizing a lot of the potential errors and better skipping between servers if one of them acts up.

Public Status Page

I finally went and set up a public facing status page for the site.

You can go to https://status.foggyminds.com to see the site uptime. This will tell you if the site is currently reporting up, as well as every time it's gone down.

I've had StatusCake set up for a while so it emails me whenever the site goes down, but I haven't had the public page set up.

I'll try to keep up on putting notes on any downtime, though I can't promise they'll always be helpful (the most recent 15 minute downtime has me stumped as it resolved right as I sat down at my computer to look it up, and the error logs were very uninformative as to what may have happened).

in reply to Server News

If anyone wonders why you could reach the server for a bit, but it was giving errors: the database takes some time to reboot due to it's size and activity.

A quick test...

Ok, allegedly I've set up to post to Tumblr from my Friendica account... let's see if it works.
in reply to hadeantaiga

It's working partially.

I can post TO Tumblr, and Tumblr can see my comments, but Friendica isn't can't see the comments made to the post on Tumblr lol.

in reply to hadeantaiga

yeah i don’t see how that could even work, since tumblr comments aren’t happening on the fedi
in reply to skze

@skye 🏳️‍⚧️ he/him Yeah, it's a very weird conversation the two sites are having and I'm not sure how it's working, but the bottom line seems to be that I can post from Friendica to Tumblr, I can view my Tumblr timeline on Firendica, and I can reply to Tumblr posts via Friendica. Friendica just can't see new comments added to the posts *via* Tumblr.
@skze
in reply to skze

@skye 🏳️‍⚧️ he/him @hadeantaiga Friendica connects to Tumblr as a puppet account, so none of it is on the fediverse but just in the same feed.

I suppose they probably didn't connect the comments because that would get weird with a whole lot of comments being only visible to you (a whole of context management to figure out if you're replying via tumblr or AP, and whether or not the person you're talking to can see the relevant tumblr or AP comment)

It does offer a quick button to get to the original post immediately though, which is helpful (for Friendica users, the top right little arrow beside the network icon).

I think the feature mostly works to let you post and not worry about leaving a chunk of your audience out. Though I imagine it could use some work and if you have ideas they're always listening on the github: https://github.com/friendica/friendica/issues
