If a single nation on this world changes it's tariffs weekly between 0% and 150%, the companies will act as if tariffs are pinned at 500%.
Nothing is more unwelcome to a company then risk, and they will act accordantly.
Nothing the US can do now will fix this, the damage is already done, the trust in low risk behavior of the US that has been build over the last 200 years has been erased with a single signature of Trump.
My non existing grandchildren will have to learn this in school as "The great American run to famine".

(And that is assuming that there will be an election in 4 years)

Officially Trump is supposed to be done after this term because of term limits...
But they've stacked every major system in their favor and started just ignoring those that contradict them. They're shredding our voting rights, already laid frameworks to declare fraud and start tossing votes, and setting up for eventual martial law.

I'm waiting for news of refugee programs to open up so I have some chance of getting out... I feel like I'm in a slowly flooding room waiting for someone to unlock the door surrounded by people saying we just need to ask nicer for the water to stop...

I think that there will be no refugee programs.
It would be for everyone a major geo political risk to do so for very little benefit.... especially since most of the world hates Americans as unthankful, arrogant bullshitter that talk more then they do.
Maybe China if the US pisses them off enough but this will be more symbolic.
If you have to flee, flee.
No one will ask you nicely if you want to become their refugee.

I'm impoverished, disabled, and don't have much market value on paper.
So right now just trying to get someplace as safe as possible and praying for maybe a civil war once I get there...
I think people overseas often don't realize how trapped we are and how hard it is for most of us to move around. Or that the americans you're most likely to meet are the wealthier entitled fuckwads who are well off enough to be able to travel.

That being said refugee programs are not out of the question but not super likely either. It really depends on the country and culture.

I think people in the US do not realize that we have a lot of ppl here that walked here from Syria and 10 other nations or that a lot of families living in Europe where at some point in the last 3 generations refugees that walked hundreds of km, ate spoiled food and dogs to survive. I had the privilege to speak about his experiences with my grandpa through all of this when i was a child of 9 and he told me stuff that still gives me the fucking chills and brings me to tears.
You might not know it but Germany currently has 1,3 million Ukrainian refugees here that we try to accommodate as best as we can - but it is still not nearly enough to call the situation "good enough".
You might have never experienced to speak with a person that fleet by foot to your nation because in their nation some religious idiots began to erect poles in the streets with chopped of heads on them and listened to their stories, getting slowly sick from it while sitting on their couch and eating the tahina they cooked for you.
What the fuck did you expect being a refuge does mean? Being a refuge does mean in almost all cases that one is impoverished, a lot of them are disabled, they do not expect aid and know that they will live in constant fear of being deported.
I hate it to break it to you but there will be no exception for americans. It might be a shock for americans but you will stand in the same line as Africans that flee war and political persecution.
So in all empathy to your situation Shiri, but an American that tells me that Europeans cannot understand how bad they are doing while we Europeans have a history of fleeing war and having millions over millions of refugees currently in Europe is somehow exactly what i expect an American to do and so completely disconnected from what the rest of this world experiences also in regard of the conditions of being a refugee.
I hope nothing happens to you and that you will find a way to whatever there is coming.
Edit: I think this comes over as quite harsh but i am also quite pissed about something like that.
Yah so sorry if this is to harsh, nothing against you personally.
