Just a reminder:
Mastodon != ActivityPub != Fediverse
It's been driving me up the wall how often people act like Mastodon is a synonym for both AP and Fedi.

Just giving a shout out to Fediseer.com for an interesting project (and the gui project available at https://fediseer.lemmings.world
If you're an instance admin I think it's worth checking out, setting up, and bookmarking for your moderation toolkit.
I don't endorse any sort of automated blocking off of said lists, but I do endorse having a database you can reference when deciding whether to defederate an instance, especially if people have filled in proof links.
Oops
Made a performance tweak that shouldn't have had an impact and resulted in a non-error being flagged as an error (I was getting 302 which really just means "look at this other address").
Fixed the tweak, otherwise should be a tiny bit better. I've got it recognizing a lot of the potential errors and better skipping between servers if one of them acts up.
Public Status Page
I finally went and set up a public facing status page for the site.
You can go to https://status.foggyminds.com to see the site uptime. This will tell you if the site is currently reporting up, as well as every time it's gone down.
I've had StatusCake set up for a while so it emails me whenever the site goes down, but I haven't had the public page set up.
I'll try to keep up on putting notes on any downtime, though I can't promise they'll always be helpful (the most recent 15 minute downtime has me stumped as it resolved right as I sat down at my computer to look it up, and the error logs were very uninformative as to what may have happened).
A quick test...
It's working partially.
I can post TO Tumblr, and Tumblr can see my comments, but Friendica isn't can't see the comments made to the post on Tumblr lol.
@skye 🏳️⚧️ he/him @hadeantaiga Friendica connects to Tumblr as a puppet account, so none of it is on the fediverse but just in the same feed.
I suppose they probably didn't connect the comments because that would get weird with a whole lot of comments being only visible to you (a whole of context management to figure out if you're replying via tumblr or AP, and whether or not the person you're talking to can see the relevant tumblr or AP comment)
It does offer a quick button to get to the original post immediately though, which is helpful (for Friendica users, the top right little arrow beside the network icon).
I think the feature mostly works to let you post and not worry about leaving a chunk of your audience out. Though I imagine it could use some work and if you have ideas they're always listening on the github: https://github.com/friendica/friendica/issues

in reply to Shiri Bailem • •For clarity:
Mastodon: A server built on the activitypub protocol
ActivityPub: the language used Mastodon, Lemmy, Pleroma, Peertube, etc to federate with eachother
Fediverse: vague term encompassing all federated platforms, including not only ActivityPub but also Diaspora, and Gnu.social among others. (One of the reasons I host a Friendica instance is because it supports the entire fediverse and not just AP)
